Pakistan

Pakistan's population hovers near 165 million people. It's population is 97% Muslim. Officially named the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, its classified as a federal republic. It operates a swift drug trade. The CIA Factbook states that opium poppy cultivation was estimated at 800 hectares in 2005 -- yielding a potential production of 4 metric tons of pure heroin. "Federal and provincial authorities continue to conduct anti-poppy campaigns that force eradication, fines and arrests if the ban on poppy cultivation is not observed." Pakistan remains a "key transit point for Afghan drugs, including heroin, opium, morphine, and hashish, bound for Western markets, the Gulf States, and Africa." Drug-trafficking related crimes include "terrorism, corruption, and smuggling."
